The new secondary school fees structure announced by Kaimenyi meet resistance from KNUT
Hardly a week
since the new secondary school structure was announced by Cabinet Secretary for
Education Mr. Kaimenyi, The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is now
opposing the new secondary fees structure development claiming that apart from disrupting
affected schools budget KNUT was not consulted.
KNUT is requesting
the Education CS to convene a meeting of school managers to iron out
contentious issues that rose with the announcement of the new secondary school fees
structure.
In the new
secondary fees structure, the Education CS reduced secondary school fees that
is to be spread across three terms on a 50:30:20 ratio, with day scholars to
pay sh9,374, special needs scholars sh37,210 and sh53,553 for boarders
respectively.
KNUT argues that
the new fees will force schools to scale down services to students in order to
fit the new directive which KNUT claims is unworkable
