2014 KCSE Results to be released on the 3rd March 2015

KNEC to release 2014 KCSE exam results on the 3rd of March 2015

Kenya Certificate of Secondary School results will be released on the 3rd of March 2015. This is according to KNEC Facebook page post signed by KNEC CEO Dr. Joseph M. Kivilu on the 24-Feb-2015.

PRESS STATEMENT ON THE RELEASE OF THE 2014 KCSE EXAMINATION RESULTS
1.0 The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes
to inform candidates, teachers, parents/guardians,
stakeholders and the general public that the 2014 KCSE,
Business, Technical & ECDE Examination results will be
released on Tuesday 3rd March 2015 by KNEC and the
Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education Science and
Technology, Prof. Jacob T Kaimenyi at Mitihani House
Caledonia off Denis Pritt Road starting from 9.00 a.m.

2.0 In preparation for the release of the Examination results,
candidates, principals and parents/guardians are advised as
follows:-
2.1 To access the 2014 KCSE Examination results, send the
candidate’s index number through a short message service
(sms) text to 22252 immediately after the release by the
Cabinet Secretary.
2.2 Upon receipt of the Examination results, thoroughly
scrutinize the results for correctness and ensure accuracy
of, the names, index number, and gender; school name and
code; and individual subjects and any discrepancy noted on
the Examination results should be communicated to KNEC
as a query within one month (30 working days) from the date
of release of the examination results, including appeals for
remarking.
2.3 Candidates with withheld/pended results will receive a letter
through the respective Head Teacher explaining why the
examination results have been withheld/pended.
3.0 All candidates and respective Head Teachers are advised
that the 2014 KCSE, Business, Technical & ECDE
Examination result slips will be issued to CDE’s after the
release.
4.0 Communication to relevant stakeholders to attend the
release event will be done through email or official letter.

Hardly a week since the new secondary school structure was announced by Cabinet Secretary for Education Mr. Kaimenyi, The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is now opposing the new secondary fees structure development claiming that apart from disrupting affected schools budget KNUT was not consulted.

KNUT is requesting the Education CS to convene a meeting of school managers to iron out contentious issues that rose with the announcement of the new secondary school fees structure.

In the new secondary fees structure, the Education CS reduced secondary school fees that is to be spread across three terms on a 50:30:20 ratio, with day scholars to pay sh9,374, special needs scholars sh37,210 and sh53,553 for boarders respectively.

KNUT argues that the new fees will force schools to scale down services to students in order to fit the new directive which KNUT claims is unworkable

Higher Education Loans Board is working on a guideline framework together with Federation of Kenya Employers that would require graduate students who benefited from government financial support for their University studies to obtain clearance from the board before being employed in the private sector.

HELB is constituted under chapter 213A of the laws of Kenya also known as Higher Education Loans Board Act, 1995.  It was founded to help graduates who could not pay for their college fees on a loan basis.
The HELB clearance certificate indicates whether a graduate is servicing his/her loan or have completed repaying their loans. The HELB clearance certificates are going for sh.1000 whether you benefited from the loan programme of not.

Firms who did not disclose to HELB that their employee is a HELB loan defaulter are fined sh.3,000 per month for each defaulting employee.

A monthly fine of sh.5,000 is also levied on all loan defaulters not servicing their loans after a grace period of one year.

Currently only graduates seeking employment in the government both county and national are the ones required to obtain HELB clearance certificate.

The education stakeholders at the Coast have asked the government to scrap KCPE to allow primary school dropouts to continue with their education. Speaking a day after Tanzania changed its education policy to make Kiswahili language part of subject to be taught in secondary school,  Mr. Dan Aloo who is the KNUT Coast executive member reiterated that free and compulsory education from nursery to university has made countries like Cuba to rank among developed countries.

Speaking separately Gabriel Katana a lecturer at Pwani University said that the government should begin looking at ways and means to make education affordable and accessible to all Kenyans. He further stated that if the government intends to retain exams, a policy for financing basic education should be put in place to remove the fees burden from parents.

Others who supported the scrapping of KCPE are: Kenya National Association of Parents, Mr. Masau Ndunda who emphasized on the implementation of Kenya Basic Education Act.

Pwani University lecturer, Mr. Josephat Mwatela asked the county governments to invest more funds towards financing education.

The cabinet secretary for Education, Mr. Kaimenyi released new fees structure for secondary schools promising that any school administration that will not pass the benefits of the new fees structure to parents will be punished.

As per the new changes, day schools will be required to charge sh9,374 per year, sh53, 553 per year for national and county boarding schools and sh32,600 respectively for schools with special needs.

The fees will be spread over the three school terms at the ration of 50:30:20. Once gazetted the changes will supersede any other and take effect from January 5, 2015.

The government will be paying sh12,870 per student as a subsidy
